Fly Fishing Instructor, Temple Grandin School
Mike teaches fly fishing, fly tying, and river science at Temple Grandin School, a nonprofit focused on meeting needs of neurodivergent middle and high school students. Here, Mike blends outdoor adventure and STEM learning to bring science to life.
Colorado Riverwatch
Colorado River Watch is a statewide volunteer water quality monitoring effort run in partnership between River Science and Colorado Parks & Wildlife, contributing real data to a program that supplies roughly a third of Colorado's water quality monitoring statewide. Mike is a certified River Watch volunteer and conducts water quality monitoring with students and other River Watch volunteers at Temple Grandin School.
Trout in the Classroom
With the support of the local Trout Unlimited Chapter, Boulder Flycasters, Mike brought Trout in the Classroom to Temple Grandin School. In this national Trout Unlimited program, students raise trout from eggs to fingerlings before releasing them into a nearby coldwater stream — building a direct, hands-on connection between the classroom and watershed conservation.
